The course is based on the second edition of the book by L. Svarovsky, Hydrocyclones, to be published in 2008. Each participant will receive a pre-publication copy of the new chapters from the 2nd edition as well as a hard-bound copy of the first edition Hydrocyclones, 1984 . The course software included in the manual (on a 3.5" disk suitable for IBM-compatible computers) consists of the following programs (all by FPS):
Instruction in the use and application of these programs will be given during the course.
Course fee for an open course: 840 GBP (No VAT), to include the manual, software, lunches, coffees/teas and course dinner (refer to methods of payment for details)
Hydrocyclones are now widely used in industry for separation of solid-liquid, liquid-liquid and gas-liquid suspensions, as well as solid-solid mixtures. They are well established in the following industries:
The course is designed to bring delegates up-to-date on developments in hydrocyclone technology and industrial practice. The emphasis will be on applications in fine particle (solid or liquid particulates) separation, thickening, classification or washing, with only a passing mention of the traditional mineral application of dense media separation. The lectures will incorporate the results of recent research and experience, with emphasis on:
Modern teaching methods and computer graphics will be used by the tutors in order to achieve maximum efficiency of learning in the time available.
The course is intended for plant operators, contractors, designers, managers or scientists from the petroleum, gas and petrochemical industries, from the chemical production, hydrometallurgy, biotechnology, waste processing or from the fertiliser, pharmaceutical, food, power generation or mineral processing industries. Aimed at engineers and scientists, the course will be of interest to anyone engaged in design, production or research and development. Previous experience in two-phase separation is helpful but not necessary. The emphasis is on practical applications and practical problems.
The course is to be given by Professors Svarovsky and Thew, both internationally established authorities on the subject. The predecessor course on the subject has been given annually in this country since 1980 and occasionally abroad, also as an in-house course in many companies worldwide. This version is even more industrially oriented and based on the second edition of Hydrocyclones.
